Our favourite dive sites
St John's Point
Directions:
To get to St John's Point, head for Donegal Town. On the Donegal Town bypass,
take the N56 signposted Killybegs. Just after the village of Dunkineely take a
left turn - clearly signposted St John's Point. After about half a mile take
care - you will come to a stop sign - and stop! Cars come at quite a speed from
your right. Take a left turn here and keep going along the narrow twisty road
right to beach. If diving, try to park as close as you can to the far end of the
beach (the road goes on to the lighthouse).
Parking:
Parking is on the grass at the side of the road. Space is limited. This is a
popular dive spot so other clubs may be there along with people enjoying a day
out.

Facilities:
None whatsoever! Bring your own food/drinks. Ladies, in particular, may need to
find a discrete place if nature calls.

Why we like St. John's Point:
In a relatively small area, there are a large number of great dive sites - a few
hundred yards from the beach is Black Rock. Along the shore to the south of the
beach are a number of sites. Close by the lighthouse there are steps giving an
opportunity for some great shore dives (NOTE - parking is a problem if you go to
the lighthouse, only 2 or 3 spaces). There are a number of sites (and a couple of
deep wrecks) along the west side - more care needs to be taken if diving along
the west side. You can find a sheltered dive site around St
John's Point pretty much whatever direction the weather is coming from.
On the east side you'll get up to 20m, west side is a bit deeper
